Yes, the allocation may be granted to support individual requests for funding to participate in an external training on the condition that the learning opportunity:


• …is not being provided by the Organization,

• …is in line with organizational needs,

• …can be demonstrably linked and is therefore relevant to the staff member’s current or imminent job responsibilities, and

• …contributes to one of the staff’s performance objectives or is linked to the staff’s Individual Learning Development Plan (ILDP). Note that the ILDP is mandatory to be filled in for staff members requesting financial support to attend an external learning opportunity, and

• has supervisor’s approval to participate in the learning opportunity.


Regions are requested by SDL to allocate at least 20% of the allocation to support individual learning needs of colleagues in the region (e.g., colleagues who need to take a training/certification in line with the work they do for IOM). These requests must be justified in writing and approved by supervisor and CoM. Colleagues who avail of this must remember to upload their training certificates into I-Learn. ROs will also be requested to provide a quarterly list of all colleagues who have been supported in this manner using the SDL funding allocation.
