Yes, it is fine to apply for a ½ day study leave or depending on the hours you need in a particular day (i.e. 2hrs only). However, please note that only a maximum of 10 study leave days (80 hours if working 40/hours week) per calendar year can be applied and the remaining balance does not carry over to the following year.
