1. What is the Pilot Arabic Language Programme?

The Pilot Arabic Language Programme is a new initiative under the IOM Language Programme, launched in response to growing staff interest and as part of IOM’s efforts to expand language‑learning opportunities. It offers individual Arabic language speaking sessions delivered by a teacher.

2. What does the programme include?

The programme includes:

  • 36 one‑to‑one, teacher‑led Arabic speaking sessions of 30 minutes,
  • Flexible scheduling based on participant availability,
  • Coverage of all proficiency levels (A1 to C2),
  • A licence valid for one year from the date of activation.

3. Will I received a certificate?

No. As this pilot consists exclusively of speaking sessions and does not include an examination, no certificate will be issued.

4. Who is eligible to apply?

You may apply if you:

  • Active IOM staff member holding a Regular, Fixed‑term, Special Fixed‑term, or Special Short‑term contract (graded or ungraded), including JPOs and IOM Medical Escorts
  • Expect to remain with IOM for at least six months
  • Have completed all mandatory IOM trainings
  • Commit to completing all 36 one‑to‑one sessions
  • Obtain supervisor approval confirming your commitment to fully utilise the programme

As this is a pilot initiative, 15 licences are available.

6. How are licences allocated?

Licences are allocated based on eligibility criteria and on a first‑come, first‑served basis.

7. Can I apply if I already have a language licence in another language?

Yes. You may apply even if you currently hold a licence in another language. This is an exception for this pilot, as Arabic was not previously available.

8. What happens if I withdraw or do not complete the programme?

Due to the limited number of licences, participants who withdraw or do not complete the programme may be required to reimburse IOM.

9. Do I need my supervisor’s approval to apply?

Yes. Applicants must obtain supervisor approval confirming their commitment to fully utilise the programme and complete all 36 sessions.
