Yes, you can register for IOM’s Mentoring Programme even if you are currently participating in or have previously participated in the UN Secretariat’s Mentoring Programme. If this applies to you, please watch this video for guidance on how to adjust your email address before applying for the IOM Mentoring Programme.
After submitting your application, you will receive an acknowledgment email confirming receipt. No further action is required at this stage. Please disregard any additional options visible on the Together mentoring platform after registration, as these do not indicate your selection or pairing status.
If you are selected and paired, programme administrators will notify you by mid-January 2025. Applicants who are not selected on this occasion will also be informed.
In this case, please submit a ticket via this form and your query will be directed to the appropriate person for support.
4. What qualifications are required to be selected as a mentor?
Mentors are invited to apply if they are at the G-6, G-7, NO-C, NO-D, P-3, P-4, P-5, D-1, or D-2 levels. Staff members who participated as mentors in the previous editions of the IOM Mentoring Programme are especially encouraged to apply again.
Mentors are required to have a minimum of 5 years of cumulative experience in IOM, the UN system, government, or the non-profit sector.
After submitting your application form, you can access more information about mentoring on the Together platform, the virtual platform used for the IOM Mentoring Programme. In the Resources section, you will find helpful materials, including the Mentor Handbook, which we encourage you to review in advance.
Additionally, through IOM’s subscription to LinkedIn Learning (accessible with your IOM credentials), selected mentors can explore a variety of self-paced online courses on mentoring-related topics. For those participating in the 2025 cohort, live virtual soft-skills sessions will also be facilitated by the Career Development and Transition team throughout the six-month programme.
Mentees are invited to express their interest and apply if they are at the G-4, G-5, G-6, G-7, NO-A, NO-B, NO-C, NO-D, UG, P-1, P-2, or P-3 levels. Please note that if you were selected as a mentee in previous editions of the IOM Mentoring Programme, priority will be given to colleagues who have not yet had the opportunity to benefit from mentoring.
9. I have been paired with a mentor. What should I do next?
Upon receiving an email from the Together mentoring platform ([email protected]) notifying you of your pairing, we recommended reaching out to your mentor promptly to establish contact. This initial step is essential for introductions and shows your enthusiasm for the mentoring relationship.
After confirming your mentor’s preferred availability, follow the step-by-step instructions provided to schedule your formal mentoring sessions through the Together platform.
If you are paired with a mentor who is a retiree, we recommend contacting them via email promptly to introduce yourself. Since retirees cannot share their calendar availability through the Together platform's integration, you will need to coordinate scheduling directly with them via email. Once availability is confirmed, follow these steps to formally track your mentoring sessions in the Together platform.
